DR WHO assistant Nicola Bryant lost no time in setting out to find a new job for herself when the famous Sci-Fi series was shelved by the BBC.
While she was left wondering what the future held for her. Nicola, 22, was eagerly seeking her first stage role.
And now she has found a part worlds away front her time-travelling exploits.
She is soon to be seen Marring as Martha the Maid in a new production 6f The Secret Garden at the Phoenix Theatre. Leicester. which opens next. month.
"It will be my first straight stage performance." said Nicola, who plays Perry in the Dr Who series.
"I decided that I Just could not go on twiddling my thumbs forever wondering if I have a job with the Doctor or not. So I decided to accept, and I'm delighted."
Playing the part of the Doctor's assistant was Nicola's first acting role, when she joined the series in 1983,
Like millions of Dr Who fans, Nicola was left with time on her hands when BBC 1 Controller Michael Grade decided to shelve the show for at least 18 months.
"I had no idea about the decision. Now I still don't know if I'm sacked or not.
"I have two years of my contract left to run, but who knows when we'll be back."
