Science fiction fans can enjoy a three-course Doctor Who feast Saturday as Channel 8 presents The Doctor Who Special from 7 p.m. until 12:45 a.m.

The special evening of Doctor Who includes three separate adventures.

K-9 & Company at 7 p.m. often a Christmas mystery and features Doctor Who's faithful robot dog companion, K-9.

Peter Davison stars as Doctor Who #5 in Terminus, the regularly scheduled episode of Doctor Who Theatre from 8-10:45 p.m.

The piece de resistance comes at 10:45 p.m. with The Five Doctors. The BBC-TV production was a 20th anniversary special made in 1985 and brings together the five actors who had portrayed the Doctor up to that time.

The Doctor, played by Peter Davision, and his previous selves in the forms of Richard Hurndall (playing for the deceased William Hartnell, Doctor Who #1), Patrick Troughton and Jon Pertwee are each mysteriously lifted out of their time streams and placed in the Death Zone on the planet Gallifrey, home of the Time Lords. The Doctor, as played by Tom Baker, finds himself trapped in a temporal void.

Also time-scooped to the Zone are some of the Doctor's former companions: Sarah Jane Smith, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, Susan Foreman, Turlough and Tegan.

Meanwhile at the inner cabinet of Time Lords, Lord President Borusa, the Castellan and Thalia are concerned by the unusual series of events. In desperation, they enlist the aid of the Master, who in return for rescuing the Doctors, will again by granted the power to regenerate.

Eventually the Doctors learn the reason for their being in the Zone—to play the Game of Rassilon. It is a series of problem-solving situations with a loser's prize of instant death delivered by various foes including the Cybermen, Daleks and Yeti.

For more than 20 years and six regenerations, Doctor Who has been shuttling through space in his strange spaceship, the TARDIS. He has been sorting out galactic problems and vanquishing monsters to the delight of an international weekly television audience of more than 100 million viewers in 54 countries.
