Patrick Troughton, who played Dr. Who from 1966 to 1968, died of a heart attack March 28 while attending a Dr. Who convention in Columbus, Georgia; he was 67. A tireless character actor, Troughton played a wide variety of roles in British television, radio and film for more than 50 years. When in Minneapolis last October, he said about acting: "If, as happened —touch wood —you get on, it's marvelous. But if you don't get on, it's hell. You spend your life on the dole, just getting bits. But if you're lucky, and have got something to give, and you can sell it, then it's wonderful." Troughton is survived by his wife, Shelagh, six children and eight grandchildren.
A Patrick Troughton Memorial Scholarship Fund has been organized by California State University, Sacramento, and the Patrick Troughton Appreciation Society to benefit a deserving CSUS theater-arts student. Tax-deductible checks payable to the fund may be sent to the Financial Aid Office, CSUS, 6000 J. Street, Sacramento, CA 95819
