[edit]

It's war! A fierce inter-galactic conflagration is about to be ignited.

The planet Zoton, a million light years away, is on red alert as arch rivals from Skar prepare to invade.

Backing the invaders is an army of robot Daleks, intent on enslaving the Zotons.

But the Skarians don't stand a chance. The Time Lord, Dr Who, has volunteered to help his Zoton friends.

The battle will be staged at Marist Brothers College, Ashgrove, by eight school children — all dedicated fans of ABC's scarf-swathed science fiction hero Dr Who.

The scriptwriter, director, producer and star of the 25 minute of epic is Matthew Crocker, 14, of The Gap.

"This will be the second Dr Who story which I've written and filmed," Matthew said.

"The first was about four years ago. It was about an hour long.

"This time we will film a 25 minute pilot episode.

"If that turns out OK we will make three or four more episodes," Matthew said.

"I'm playing the leading role of Dr Who. Some of the others will be playing double parts.

"The ABC has loaned us a couple of Dr Who-type props — including a Dalek robot and a Tardis time machine."

Matthew and his schoolfriends are members of the 60 strong Brisbane branch of the Dr Who Fan Club which meets at his home every three weeks.

TV hope

"I've been watching Dr Who for ages. It's a terrific show.

"Inspiration was easy but sometimes I had trouble putting my ideas down. Eventually, everything seems to have worked out."

The only female in the cast of eight is Jane Ryan, 14, of The Gap.

"I was in the first Dr Who episode we did and this time I play the part of Romana — Dr Who's assistant," Jane said.

Video equipment for the production is being provided by Marist Brothers College.

The film will be shown at Marist Brothers and could possibly be televised by Channel 7.

"There's nothing definite about Channel 7 as yet. But we're keeping our fingers crossed," Matthew said.
