... I really enjoyed the Dr. Who features in issue #34. It was very thoughtful of Mr. Baker to come 7,000 miles on a 1 6-hour trip for his American fans. I know he had to be exhausted, but Baker went right on to the con and made a lot of people happy. I thank him for his effort and his willingness to please his fans.

THE DOCTOR'S IN

... I loved the interview with Tom Baker and the article on the Dr. Who convention. It's so nice to have a female (Leela) who doesn't scream or faint. She's actually useful to have about. I've been waiting for an article on the show since I first saw the Doctor and his associates. Thanks for justifying my patience.

... Sincere, profound and heartfelt thanks for the well-written interview with Tom Baker. Now I understand why Doctor Who continues to be such a delight — the intelligence, imagination and craftsmanship of its star rise above the show's occasionally hackish writing and poor special effects. It's time American producers realized that even superb special effects are flat and tedious when they're used as the focal point of the story. Outraged though many of your readers will be, Baker is right about Space: 1999, and what he says also applies to Galactica and Star Trek— TMP. Maybe we on this side of the Atlantic could learn a lesson from Dr. Who, which episode after episode gives us so much from so little.
