Mary Tamm, who used to play Dr. Who's assistant Romana in the BBC television series, is back in London after week in Chicago to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the show.

"It was extraordinary says" says 32-year-old Mary. All the actors who have played the Doctor, and many of the other actors and actresses past and present, were flown out and put up in a Chicago hotel for a two-day convention with the fans of the programme.

"It is hugely popular in America, and 10,000 fans turned up for the convention, some of them queued for hours to get our autographs.

"We were treated like royalty, and everywhere we went we had up to six bodyguards looking after us. On one occasion I went to the loo escorted by two huge guys with walkie-talkies!"
