Flip Side goes intergalactic this week with a Doctor Who 30th anniversary special. Plus, you could win a fabulous trip to the Doctor Who Convention in Chicago

The first-ever Doctor Who was shown on Saturday November 23, 1963. And now, 30 years on, Doctor Who has been enjoyed by hundreds of millions of people in over 60 different countries. The only other show to last as long is Coronation Street.

Doctor Who is a 900-year-old Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey. Over the past 30 years, he has gone through seven regenerations. His travels have brought him up against some terrifying opponents, including the Daleks and the Cybermen.

In his most recent incarnation, he was played by Sylvester McCoy. But before that, familiar names including Tom Baker, Jon Pertwee and Peter Davison all starred as The Doctor, with William Hartnell being the which character Roger Delgado played in very first.

Over the years a then unknown Leslie Grantham made a brief appearance in Resurrection of the Daleks.

Stunning actress Rula Lenska was also one of his co-stars in the show. And in 1986, former Avengers actress Honor Blackman appeared in Terror of the Vervoids, playing Professor Lasky, transporting sinister alien seed pods on to a space liner. Other famous faces include Jason Connery, Kate O' Mara, Alexei Sayle, Windsor Davies, Ken Dodd, Richard Briers and Pauline Collins.

Caption: Flame-haired Rula Lenska made her appearance in 1984 and is just one of many famous faces who have featured in Doctor Who over the past 30 years. John Cleesemade a brief appearance in 1979 and my pal Sarah Greene also donned a mask in the same episode.

Caption: Doctor Who's dress sense was something out of the ordinary, to say the least — from Peter Davison's wild, wacky get-up (above) to Tom Baker's love affair with long scarves

WIN DR WHO TRIP

Win a trip for two to the Doctor Who Convention in Chicago. Just tell me which character Roger Delgado played in the show. For runners-up, there's a Tardis Video Cabinet with 67 Doctor Who videos, then four special Doctor Who bomber jackets, followed by two boxed sets of Doctor Who videos. Mark postcards Doctor Who and send to the address below.

Enjoy Doctor Who's adventures on video, with loads of titles available. There's also a series of Doctor Who stories on cassette (BBC Radio), narrated by Jon Pertwee.
