[edit]

TO go for an even younger Doctor than David Tennant risks being annoying, but Matt Smith pulls it off —he's funny, zany and has the required energy. The plot in his first episode was encouragingly fast-moving. As for debate over whether the Doctor's assistant, Karen Gillan, is too sexy — both Smith and Gillan are good-looking but it is hardly in-yer-face. Looks are secondary to banter and rapport with the lead in a role in which both Billie Piper and Catherine Tate was recently cast to good effect. Thank goodness that among all the intense TV drama we get there are well-written flights of fancy like Doctor Who.

Nick Evans, Winchester.

NO Doctor Who fan can really worry that Karen Gillan is too sexy when the Doctor has already had a loincloth-clad barbarian companion in Louise Jameson.

Ronald Graves.

MATT Smith did not do a bad impression of David-Tennant in his first appearance as the Doctor L but he was comprehensively out-acted by Karen Gillan in the first half.

A Townsend.
