DOCTOR WHO: LAST MAN RUNNING by Chris Boucher, BBC Books, 10/98, $5.95, ISBN 0-563-405945
Now that BBC books is publishing original Dr. Who novels, the concept of the missing adventure has been revived. This is a story of the Tom Baker Doctor, accompanied by Leela, and their adventures when they land on an unnamed planet with no civilization. There are, however, inhabitants—a handful of human beings and a host of monsters, including a gestalt snake creature that presents a particularly nasty surprise. Predictably, the Doctor and Leela are separated, each having a series of adventures before discovering the villainous humans who are using the world as an experimental ground to design biological weapons for use in interplanetary wars. Light on the science but heavy on adventure, and actually a pretty good story even for those who aren't fans of the series.
