SEEMS the Beeb are giving "Dr Who" a rest for a while. Can't say that has caused too many earth tremors at TTT Towers, but record producer Ian Levine decided it was pretext enough to do a baby Band Aid, gather a few dodgy old starlets together under the name of Who Cares? end make a save-the-Doctor record called "Doctor in Distress". Stars? Well, sort of ... John Lodge, Justin Hayward, Bobby Gee of Buck's Fizz, Rick Buckler and some Time UK-ers, The Cult's Ian Astbury, Jona Lewie, Warren Cann from Ultravox ... plus a few TV types like Faith Brown, Sally Thomsett, the Doc himself (Colin Baker) and his "assistant" Nicola Bryant. No Duran. No Wham! No Bono. Not even bloody Stephen 'Tin Tin" Duffy. Another fine mess if you want our opinion. Proceeds from the disc will go to the National Organisation for Cancer Relief, by the way. Why not give yourself a break and just send them a fiver direct? Your ears will thank you. Meanwhile, Radio 1 might not play it because it attacks BBC policy. Storm in a teacup, anybody?
