Infallible Time Lord
Doctor Who contends one of the evil creatures in his travels through space.
Doctor Who is a science fiction fantasy produced by BBC-TV for adventure seeking viewers. The Doctor, played by Tom Baker, is a Time Lord, the possessor of two hearts, a body temperature of 60 degrees fahrenheit and immense longevity. Bored with Gallifrey, his own super-advanced planet, and fellow Time Lords, he roams through space and time in a personalized ship — the Tardis (Time And Relative Dimensions In Space).
In practice his space-ship is tempermental and unreliable. The chameleon circuit, having jammed on a visit to London in the sixties, left the Tardis exterior as a police box!
The Doctor himself is infallible. Part of his appeal is his problem-solving capacity when things go wrong, making do with bits and pieces of electronic gadgetry that just happen to be around.
He encounters various villainous creatures in his travels, to name a few: Morbius, the brain; Krynoids, the man-eating vegetables; Xoanon, a schizophrenic computer; plus many more.
Doctor Who is the longest running weekly series on BBC-TV with an international audience of 98 million viewers in 39 countries around the world. The Doctor is a national institution for British television, an outstanding character of modern fiction, as well as a popular personality for an active fan club throughout the world.
Doctor Who appeals to all age groups and to people from all walks of life. It is a fantasy program of good against evil — a departure into fun and adventure with a Time Lord.
Doctor Who premieres Saturday, August 20, at 10:15 p.m. following The Hitch Hikers' Guide to the Galaxy.
