In a half-page chronicle of what he supposes to be the decline of Dr Who (21 January, p 177) Malcolm Peltu picks out two recent scripts as special targets for his scorn. Readers may be puzzling over this, particularly as one of them, "Logopolis", won the Dr Who Appreciation Society Award as the best story of 1982.
Peltu is also a regular contributor to a personal computing magazine of modest circulation. His book column there adds to the flood of reading matter from the computer press with reviews that typically lament, usually at some length, the opacity of other people's prose.
I regularly write for Practical Computing, a more widely read magazine. My raw material isn't a pile of heavy books; I play with the latest computers and computer software, and I have a great time sharing the fun with my readers. Oh yes, and I'm also the author of the two Dr Who scripts Peltu was being pompous about. A touch of jealousy perhaps?
