Former Doctor Who star Tom Baker has high hopes for the newest Time Lord, Peter Capaldi, calling him an "accomplished actor."
The Independent said Baker — now 80 — admitted he has no advice for the Scottish thespian, whose selection was widely hailed by fans of the Doctor.
"I don't have any advice for anybody and certainly not someone taking over Doctor Who," Baker said.
Baker — famous for wearing a rumpled hat and multi-coloured scarf during his incarnation — played the beloved sci fi character longer than any other actor. He even made a cameo appearance last November during 50thanniversary celebrations in The Day of the Doctor.
In that episode, Baker said he wasn't sure whether his character — The Curator — was in fact, an older version of the Time Lord.
"Well, typical of the BBC, nobody knows. I mean it could be anything, it could be the next director general for all we know," he said, adding he always thought the show — and some of its vilest villains — was comedy.
"Oh, I thought they were all great comedy when I was doing it, but they're very obvious, aren't they? They're just going to be like The Talons of Weng-Chiang and all that rather spooky stuff," he said.
