DR WHO'S faithful fans today hit out at the B.B.C.'s decision to send their hero into a time warp.
Roy Evans, who organises the Merseyside Science-Fiction Media Group, said: "It is ludicrous to cancel the series for 18 months when it is so popular.
"It is the most popular science fiction series ever, cud is still pulling in big viewing audiences."
Mr. Evans says his group will join other Dr. Who fans in bombarding the B.B.C. with letters, and protests about the decision to keep their favourite character off the screen until 1986
Mr. Evans, a teacher at Liverpool's Highfield Comprehensive said a huge convention in Chicago had shown that Dr. Who was also a big favourite in America.
The Media Group with the Merseyside group of the Dr. Who Appreciation Society — hold regular meetings at Liverpool's Shaftesbury Hotel to show videos and discuss their idol and other sci-fi programmes
The decision by B.B.C.-1 Controller Michael Grade came one month before work was due to start on the next series starring Colin Baker — the sixth Dr. Who — and his sexy sidekick Nicola Bryant.
