THE Beeb's sci-fi hit has been hit by the credit crunch.

Producers are having to use old monsters to save the pennies.

The first signs of the franchise being hit by the global financial crisis have occurred on the Doctor Who spinoff series Sarah Jane Adventures.

Word has leaked that the Time Lord's old enemies The Slitheen, below, are coming back for the FIFTH time.

The giant farting green aliens debuted on Doctor Who in 2005.

They did battle against the Doctor, played by Christopher Eccleston, 45, at the time and re-appeared later in the series.

The creatures were then revived in 2007 for The Sarah Jane Adventures starring former Tardis companion Elisabeth Sladen, 61.

They appeared in two separate storylines.

Now telly chiefs have decided to bring them back again for the new series later this year.
