[edit]

It was clickety-click as Doreen Storer went into stitches today in a bid to set up a world record.

The 44-year-old from Washington was knitting a green Dr. Who scarf for her favorite radio personality-in an hour.

Using No. 7 needles and double-knit wool, Doreen of Wilton Court, Oxclose, was trying to become the world's fastest hand-knitter.

She'll have to do at least 112 stitches in a minute during the hour to win a place in the Guinness Book of Records.

Doreen, who's been knitting since she was seven, made her bid watched by shoppers in the Woolco stores The Galleries, Washington.

She is being sponsored and all cash will go to the British Heart Foundation.

Doreen, fan of Metro Radio, is presenting the scarf to presenter Dave Porter.

The world record of 111 stitches a minute is held by a West Yorkshire woman and was set up and they wool shop in Leeds in September 1980.
