NORTH-EAST television tyrant Michael Sheard could be in the frame to play the next Dr Who.

The Aberdeen-born actor, who played Mr Bronson in children's TV series Grange Hill, has been approached to fill the famous Time Lord's shoes.

The role - in a planned film remake - could see him follow former doctors such as Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker into the Tardis.

Michael, a former Aberdeen Grammar School pupil who now counts Roger Moore and Harrison Ford among his buddies, has specialised in playing the "baddy".

As well as Mr Bronson, he has appeared as Admiral Ozzel in the Empire Strikes Back and as Hitler in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.

Producer Mitch Henderson is interested in producing a Dr Who movie - and sees Michael as the ideal Doctor.

He said: "Michael would love to play the doctor if the rights could be secured."

Michael, who is in his 50s, is the son of Aberdeen minister Donald Perkins and was raised in Carlton Place in the city's West End.

He moved to England at the age of 15 but returned to the city regularly to visit relatives.

The father-of-three, who has played bit parts in Dr Who, was in the North-east in March to attend a Star Trek convention in Peterhead.
