[edit]

I HAVE been reading about weapons far more terrible than anything Russia may have up its chain mail sleeve.

These are the Dalek war machines. There's the Thunderizer, for instance. which amplifies the sound of thunder and creates a noise big enough to disintegrate enemy machinery. The Magnatrap is a vast magnet which draws metal ships out of the sky. The Anti-solarium refrigerates the sun, and so freezes the inhabitants of enemy planets. The Voltoscope, included among Dalek small arms, is the size of an electric torch. but with the power of a thousand suns, blinding the foe.

This armoury is part of "The Dalek Book". which is full of stories of the robot people in the B.B.C.'s "Dr. Who serial." Published by Panther books at 9s. 6d., the book presents in colour the wonders seen only in black and white on television. As well as many excitingly illustrated adventure strips it includes the Dalek Planetarium, a game called "Dodge the Dalek," a secret code (the Dalekode) and a Dalek dictionary.

Great fun for Christmas, children — if Dad doesn't borrow the book for too long!
