Time lord clocks up 25th season
THIS is a very special year for Doctor Who as many of you sharp and dedicated fans of the series know.
It is now 25 years since the roving Time Lord first stepped out of the Tardis to do battle with the Daleks, the Cybermen and a legion of other evil opponents.
The 25th season's episodes were filmed this summer and a lot of fans are hoping that these silver jubilee stories will have that extra special flavour.
Nobody is hoping as much as the present Doctor Who Scottish comedian Sylvester McCoy.
This is because he is facing a danger far greater than all the slippery, slimy and vile creatures that have crossed swords with the seven Doctor Whos so far.
His real enemies, according to Starburst fantasy magazine, are a large slice of Doctor Who fans who don't like him in the role and think the last batch of Doctor Who stories were a washout.
True, a lot of the recent episodes lacked that cutting edge. But McCoy is not to blame for poor scripts, weak stories and bad direction.
So all eyes will be on the new season's episodes to see if they've put Dr. Who back on line again.
Efforts have been made. to put some buzz back into the series. The infamous Daleks have been brought back again in an episode "Remembrance of the Daleks".
Apparently when they were shooting this episode around London the film crew were pestered by hoards of young fans who came to watch and would shout 'EXTERMINATE' in the middle of a take.
An other story for the jubilee season is "The Greatest Show in The Galaxy" in which the doctor runs foul of a vicious baddie called The Chief clown who is certainly no joke.. Irish actor T.P. McKenna is a guest star in that story.
Story three 'The Happiness Patrol' is a howl. It is all about the planet Terra Alpha where by law everyone must be happy.
Anyone who looks a bit. depressed or caught in the act of shedding a tear is instantly shot dead by, wait. for it, the Happiness Patrol.
It gives some meaning to the song 'A little bit of tear let me down...
When McCoy Old finally bows out of the Doctor Who series why not give an Irish star a chance at the role.
'Miley (Michael Lally) from Glenroe would be my choice.
'Holy God tonight aren't those Daleks fierce little devils altogther....
Maybe Twink as his sidekick.
Perhaps some of you would tell me what Irish stars would suit the roles of Dr. Who and his pal. Cash and book prizes for the best letters.
