LONDON'S "Dr. Who "-type police telephone boxes have been declared redundant.

All but a handful of the boxes —made famous when Dr. Who I used one as his time machine "Tardis" in the BBC television series—are to disappear.

Police authorities have decided that improved means of communication and the equipping of today's patrol policemen with their own radios have rendered the boxes unnecessary.

The present boxes were put up as the successors to the so-called. "watch boxes" which were erected In London during the last century.

At the moment the Metropolitan police have 640 boxes and 100 police posts in their administrative area.
