Izzard set for a Tardis romp
CROSS-dressing comedian Eddie Izzard could find love as Dr Who in the revived version of the TV classic.
Scriptwriter Russell T. Davies has refused to rule out a spot of nookie in the Tardis for the new-look Time Lord.
It's part of a sexy makeover for the Doctor, who will be seen talking dirty with his girl companion, Rose Tyler.
Bosses are desperate to sign Billie Piper to play Rose in the BBC show, to hit our screens later this year.
Writer Russell, who is best known for penning the saucy Channel 4 series Queer As Folk, is determined to give Dr Who extra passion.
He is not expected to turn our hero gay, even though star Izzard is famed for wearing skirts as he camps it up in his stage comedy routine.
But the show will be brought up to date, with the Doctor and pal Rose chatting about EastEnders — as well as her sex life. There's also the chance that the Time Lord will fall in love himself.
Enemy
Russell said: "I have a philosophy —I can do what I want. If we can think of the perfect story for him to fall in love, then he will. There is no pure Dr Who. He is 41 years old. The only way to do it is to change."
The writer is also considering swapping the doctor's trademark eccentric outfits for something new.
But not everyone is happy with the new image. And with the absence of the Daleks because of copyright restrictions, the Doctor's biggest enemy is likely to be the Dr Who Appreciation Society — the fans who worship the original character. Member David Bickerstaff said it would be a "travesty" for the Doctor to fall in love.
And former star Colin Baker said: "Love is a human emotion and the Doctor is not human.
"We were always told one golden rule — no hanky-panky in the Tardis."
