THE imagination of these children ran wild when they entered drawing and writing competitions run by Hillingdon Council.

There were two challenges set during spring half-term — one related to the Sweet Valley American teenage books and the other to Dr Who.

Entrants had to imagine a new character had come to live in Sweet Valley, and describe it in either words or pictures.

The second challenge was to invent a new monster or enemy to challenge Dr Who. Again entries could be in written or visual form.

Sweet Valley winners were: 7-9 years: best drawing, Victoria Jarvis, 9, of Ickenham: best writing. Paula Louison, 9. of Hayes. 10 to 15 years: best drawing, Caroline Arnett, II, of Hayes; best writing. Deborah Jones, 13, of Hayes.

Prizes were copies of Sweet Valley books, signed by their creator, Francine Pascal.

Dr Who winners were: 7-9 years: best drawing, Sarah Spencer, 8, of East-cote; best writing, Kieran O'Brien, 7, of Ruislip Manor. 10 to 15 years: best drawing, Stuart Headlam, 14, of Icken-ham; best writing, Gary Murphy, 12, of Ruislip Manor.

Dr Who books, signed by local authors Pip and Jane Baker, were awarded to the winners.

All 50 entries are on display at Ickenham library until April 4.
