She's boldly going to help organise sci-fi convention

STAR TREK enthusiast Tina Bailey is planning to boldly go - by organising a cult TV convention.

Tina, who lives in Burntwood, has got together with a group of friends to organise a massive convention for fans of sci-fi programmes and other 'cult' series.

She's hoping that guests will include Jon Pertwee, famed for his roles as Dr Who and Worzel Gummidge; writer Harlan Ellison, who has produced scripts for dozens of shows, including 'Star Trek', 'The Man from Uncle', and 'The Twilight Zone', and Sylvia Anderson, co-creator of 'Thunderbirds'.

Character

According to Tina there's more to cult TV conventions than dressing up. "Some people do come along dressed as their favourite character - but that's not what it's all about." she explained.

"It gives fans a chance to meet and chat, but many of the people who come along are interested in working in television, perhaps by getting involved in writing or producing.

"Conventions give them the opportunity to talk to people who are actually working in TV. to find out how things are done, and to take a close look at archive material, as well as watching up to date programmes."

Tina, who has just gained a psychology degree from Nottingham University, is certainly pretty knowledgeable about television - and is due to appear on the popular 'Telly Addicts' quiz show next month.

She will be competing with a group of friends all dressed as characters from 'Star Trek.'

The convention takes place at Pontins Seacroft Holiday Village, Hemsby, near Great Yarmouth on Friday 11 to Monday 14 November.
