ACTRESS Jodie Whittaker said becoming the first woman to play Doctor Who left her in tears.
The Broadchurch star admitted on BBC radio yesterday that getting the part was "incredibly emotional".
Jodie, 35, said: "I didn't faint - I played it really cool and cried."
She also revealed it was her "dream" part and she has spoken to past Doctors about playing the Tardis time traveller.
The mum of one added: "I don't even know what the journey is. Every script I read will be brand new. "This certainly is very different."
She praised fans of the sci-fi series as "the most amazing, creative people".
And she said she has ignored all the criticism from some quarters of her shock casting.
Jodie added: "This will be a blessing and a curse. I've missed a lot of the fun stuff and probably the bad stuff, because I'm not on any type of social media and never have been."
Her role will see her reunited with Broadchurch writer Chris Chibnall.
