Paul Brooks risks the wrath of The Missus in checking out the coolest Christmas sci-fi toys
WHAT do you want for Christmas?' asks The Missus. 'A less insulting wife who wouldn't win a medal in the Sarcasm Olympics?' That's what I want to reply but I don't say it out loud. This is a chance to get something that will make me happy without having to beg. I'm not about to blow it by doing something stupid like speaking.
So what do you buy the uber-geek in your life?
The Twelfth Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver universal remote (£69.99) is a replica of Peter Capaldi's device and it operates like the Potter wand. Users turn it on and practise a series of gestures. The screwdriver recognises these gestures, then it's a matter of putting it into programming mode, repeating the gesture and pushing the matching button on the corresponding remote controller so the device can copy the signal. Result: I can turn the TV on and off. And I can pretend I'm a Time Lord.
