AS A lifelong fan of Dr Who, I would like to add my voice to what is undoubtedly going to be a vast and loud protest over the BBC's plan to rest the programme for two years.
It is only too obvious that this is a ploy to force the Government into allowing the BBC to have their licence fee rise. It is very sad that this type of "JR-ish" tactic is being used in this way. It is also sad that the public and one of our most popular and longest running shows are being used in this way.
However, I sincerely hope that this dastardly plot will not succeed. And if it is necessary in order to save a harmless bit of entertainment to do things Mr Grade's way, then I hope he is indeed inundated with protests, because I'm sure even the evil Master and the Daleks would miss the Doctor and his Tardis.
