[edit]

THE PRINCESS of Wales is top of the beauty stakes and the favourite heroine of the tens of thousands of visitors to Madame Tussaud's in London.

She took the beauty "title" from Sophia Loren in the waxworks' annual survey of favourite people, and unseated "Dr Who" alias Tom Baker as the visitors' favourite hero or heroine.

The mystery surrounding a new photograph of the Princess of Wales, for an overseas postage stamp marking her 21st birthday in July was cleared away by Queen's Press Secretary Mr Michael Shea today when he said it was produced by agency and not taken by any member of the Royal Family.

And disc jockey Dave Lee Travis was today named pipeman of the year.

He won the award after poll of tobacco industry workers.

Labour Leader Michael Foot has been voted the world's best dressed man in a poll conducted by New Musical Express among its readers.
