The Jackson County Public Library will showcase its Teen Scene room during an event Saturday at the library in Seymour. The event will take place throughout the day.

The event will center around activities related to the "Doctor Who" television show, which airs on BBC America and is popular among teenagers. Participants will have the opportunity to make bowties, play trivia games and other crafts.

The event also brings attention to the Teen Scene room that was remodeled over the summer, said Jill Willey, youth services assistant.

"We're re-launching the Teen Scene room and will show its improvements," Willey said.

Improvements include reupholstered furniture, new paint, updated technology and more programs aimed at teenagers in the community.

The room now features six Apple iPads, a Playstation 3 and Playstation 4 with games, Guitar Hero and a new category of books for teenagers.

"We now have young adult non-fiction books, which is something we have not had before," Willey said. "That's something we're excited about."

Willey said that since the room has reopened there has been an increase in traffic. She said many of the community's teenagers use the room for a variety of reasons.

"There are some that use it for homework, video games, to read, or to do research," she said. "A lot them use it for multiple reasons and they really use it to socialize."

Willey said the area is popular because there are not many places for teenagers to congregate in the community.

"There's really not many places where teens can come and hang out," she said. "It's also a safe place for them to come."

Willey said after the Doctor Who event, the Teen Scene room plans to have multiple programs throughout the year.

"The way it looks now, we will probably have a program every other week," she said.
