DR WHO travelled 1000 years into the future today to meet Bonnie Langford, his new assistant.
Bonnie plays Mel, who viewers will see for the first time on November 1.
They meet on an inter. galactic liner returning to earth from the planet Mogar in the 30th Century AD.
But today the Doctor, actor Colin Baker, had a more down to earth look.
Colin, who has played the Doctor for two-and-a-half years has grown a beard since the last episode was filmed in August, but he will return to the screen clean shaven.
In the series Bonnie plays a Calamity Jane character. "I seem to attract trouble. I get involved in a few perilous situations and have to be rescued by the Doctor," she said.
Colin said: "I'm looking forward to working with Bonnie. She's a wonderful performer with a wonderful sense of fan."
Her predecessor in the series, Peri, played by Nicola Bryant is to die in next Saturday's episode. But BBC chiefs are not revealing how.
