FANS of the BBC's Dr Who series are among bidders in section of police boxes similar to the famous time travelling Tardis.
One fan actually burst into verse, writing a poem to support his application for one of the cast iron boxes being sold off by Lothlan and Borders Police as surplus to requirements
A total of 46 offers for the bores were received by yesterday's noon deadline. There others, which arrived too late, will be returned.
The applications will bow be considered by the police force and Lothian Regional Council's property department which is handling the sale.
A spokesman said suggestions for future use of the boxes including turning them into street kiosks, coffee stands and public toilets
Museums are among the bidden and several hotels want them for children's playgrounds.
Bat he would not divulge how much they had been offered for the boxes dating back to the 1930s, which were used by police officers to take shelter while on the beat.
Some boxes remain on Edinburgh streets because they are listed buildings.
