Former Doctor Who star Tom Baker has become a continuity announcer on BBC1.
But he won't be giving the usual straight-laced introductions to programmes viewers are used to.
His script for the night has been written by Little Britain creators Matt Lucas and David Walliams Baker's voice will introduce viewers to the shows as a one-off this Thursday.
His stint, which begins at 7pm, and ends at 9.30pm, is thought to be the first time the BBC has used a celebrity as a continuity announcer Baker. who found fame as the time-travelling Doctor in the Seventies, will be guiding the audience through the evening's entertainment as his Little Britain character, the narrator
The idea was dreamt-up to celebrate the launch of the new series of Lucas and Walliams' hit show Little Britain on BBC1.
Baker, 70, will begin by introducing a show The Great Big Bid, part of the programming leading up to Children in Need
He will say: "Hello tellyviewers. You're watching the BBC1.
At 9 o clock its Little Britain - the greatest show in the history of broadcasting ... but first its time for the Great Big Bid. Oh mah sweet potatoes!"
Search is on to find new sidekick as Billie quits
Billie Piper has quit her role as Doctor Who sidekick Rose Tyler before the new series starts.
The 23-year-old star told producers she did not want to become typecast as they begged her to stay for a third run of the hit show. A source said last night: "Her mind's made up."
BBC chiefs have now launched a bid to find her replacement.
They are still reeling over Christopher Eccleston's decision to quit his role as the Doctor before the first series even went out.
Billie, who won a Best Actress award last month for her portrayal of Rose, nearly walked out then, but bosses persuaded her to stay and film the second run with new Time Lord David Tennant and a Christmas special.
The source added: "She wants to strike while the iron's hot and make a big name for herself while she's so popular.
"She feels her profile will go down if the series isn't as big the third time around," they said.
"The BBC are auditioning other girls to take over. They want to have the next actress all lined up when they announce Billie's departure.
