Doctor Who (alias Sylvester McCoy) gets the thumbs-down from Ben - but it was not really his fault, as Ben explains in his letter printed here.

I thought the new Doctor Who was too much of a comedian to be accepted by the public, alongside the other well-known and respected six.
As the opening scene illustrated, he picked himself up and then rambled on about who, what and where he was, in a ridiculous way.
Ever since Patrick Troughton began, Doctor Who has had a slight comic touch but this was going far over the top.
Apart from the script he had to read, I felt Sylvester McCoy made a great Doctor Who. He had all the attributes necessary - a happy, joyful person with initiative, the traditional slight temper, he seemed to know how to deal with the enemy, and above all charm, but the comedy ruined this.
To blame it on Sylvester McCoy would be foolish but with a script like this episode, he did look rather silly.
If the series continues to run like this they might as well rename it... perhaps "Carry on Doctor" would be good!
