THE most unusual monsters ever to hit that monster-creating serial "Dr. Who" will make their appearance in September.
The Daleks, Sensorites and Slythers which have chilled and thrilled old young in previous episodes all had one thing in common -- they had a sinister appearance.
But the new monsters, the Drahvins, are an entirely new conception in spine-chillers, for they are beautiful, blonde women.
These warrior women, who live on a rocky planet somewhere in Galaxy Four, are created in test-tubes and have. a hate complex.
Reared to fight
Writer William Emms, who created them, tells me that the Drahvins are reared specially to fight, and their aim is to exterminate the friendly, robot-like Chumblies.
The Chumblies, which are controlled by the Rills, a race. living on another planet, use laser lights as weapons, but until Dr. Who comes along they are fighting a losing battle against the deadly ray-guns of the Drahvins.
"Originally I had intended that the monsters would be men," says Mr. Emms. "Then someone suggested that beautiful women cast in the role would give an even stronger sense of the macabre."
Four Drahvins will appear before the cameras, and viewers with a quick eye may. recognise one of them as Lynn Ashley, who plays the receptionist in "Compact."
What of the other monsters? A B.B.C. spokesman assures me that the Daleks. by far the most "popular" of the "Dr. Who" monsters, will eventually make a re-appearance.

Stephanie Bidmead plays the Drahvins leader Maaga, and the others are Marine Martin, Susanna Carroll and Lyn Ashley.
