BRITISH actor Tom Baker is due in Sydney next week. Tom who? If I tell you he Is the current (and the most popular) Dr Who of the BBC-TV series then, you'll know who I mean. He is coming to promote the new Dr Who series. Baker, In his mid 30s, is a fascinating man who once spent five years training to be a monk. Now he is a superstar in Britain and cannot go anywhere in public without being mobbed.
IN Britain, Dr Who has been the most wildly successful series that country has ever seen. Originally conceived as a children's program it is now must viewing for people of all ages and is particularly popular in universities. At the BBC they tell the story of a nasty students' demonstration that was quickly broken up when the university administrator announced that Dr Who was on television. The students were on their way to their TV sets before they realised it was the wrong day of the week for Dr Who!
