What science fiction TV show has had the longest run on television, generated more books and audio adventures and even propelled a line of candy to popularity? We'll give you a hint, it was recently voted the top "TV show to die for" in a recent issue of TV Guide.

"Star Trek" you say?

No, it's "Doctor Who."

In honor of the good doctor's hit series running Friday nights on the Sci-Fi Channel, we offer up the following facts for you to chew on:

- The BBC television series has been running since 1963, but didn't start running in the United States until the mid-1970s. It began showing in larger markets such as Chicago and New York, eventually making it to Ohio in 1978.

- Jelly Babies (the candy referenced above) were popularized by the second, fourth and eighth Doctors.

- According to the BBC, "Doctor Who" has adventured through more than 600 episodes with a host of other products, including books, comics, video games, audio books released over the years in conjunction with the TV show.

- The Doctor, as he's known, is a Time Lord from the planet Gallifrey who helps keep our planet safe from alien threats like the Cybermen and the Daleks.

- The Doctor can regenerate a new body when he's dying. Each time he regenerates, a new actor takes on the role.

- The 10th actor to play The Doctor is David Tennant, who was ranked No. 20 in the March 2006 issue of New Woman magazine's list of top 100 men.

- This season, the Doctor's already taken on his oldest enemies, the Daleks, but in the next few weeks, his most dangerous opponent, a renegade Time Lord known as the Master will return in a three-episode season finale arc.

- If you need to catch up, this Friday the Sci-Fi Channel will present a Doctor Who marathon from 8 a.m to 2 p.m.
