[edit]

An enduring feature of the "Doctor Who" series is the rotating cast of the title character's sidekicks, often young, pretty women. Writing a spinoff story for "Time Trips," a new series of e-books, the novelist A.L. Kennedy was inspired by a 1976 story arc in which the doctor traveled alone. As a girl, Kennedy recalls being "increasingly irritated" by his comely companions: "They were more for the dads."
