THERE will be no sofas to hide behind when science fiction's most feared creations land at a village hall.
The Daleks, the metal clad aliens who have been frightening children for nearly half a century, will be at Lanchester Village Hall, near Durham City, on Sunday, October 23.
Their implacable enemy Dr Who - in the form of the incarnation of the Time Lord played by Colin Baker - will also be there.
The actor, who starred in the programme from 1984 to 1986, will be joined by his companion Peri, played by Nicola Bryan, and Ace (Sophie Aldred) who accompanied seventh Doctor Sylvester McCoy, and the robotic dog K9.
They will all be at Lanchester Community Centre from 10.30am to 5pm for the Dr Who day.
Visitors will be able to chat to the stars and meet the Daleks, Cybermen, and a host of aliens. There will be a full-sized Tardis and costumes from the series will be on display.
There will be alien face painting for children, an alien cake competition, sci-fi merchandise on sale and interviews with the actors, something to appeal to everyone.
The event is being staged by SoundPower Orchestra, whose conductor and artistic director George Hastings has been a close friend of Colin Baker for many years and was responsible for the first Dr Who event staged in Lanchester two years ago.
He said: "We met doing panto in Hull where I was the show's musical director. Since then we have collaborated, writing songs for TV and theatre productions."
A musical sci-fi day is planned for next spring by the Soundpower Orchestra at Durham University, featuring musical performances from Sophie and Nicola. Tickets for this month's event cost [pounds]13 for adults, £27 for families and [pounds]8 concessions. They are available from the community centre, call 01207-721275.
