Ex-Doctor Who phones future from the past EXCLUSIVE
FORMER Doctor Who Matt Smith will come back from the dead in a cameo role in the new series.
Matt, 31, has been replaced by Peter Capaldi in the hit BBC sci-fi show,
But despite the Time Lord regenerating, programme boss Steven Moffat is giving Matt another chance to finally sign off as the monsterbusting galactic hero.
A show source said: "Doctor Who's sidekick Clara, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman, is struggling to accept that Capaldi is still her Doctor when she receives a phone call from Matt, which he made prior to his regeneration.
"It sounds confusing but he is ringing the future from the past and wants to assure Clara this new man is still Doctor Who."
Capaldi, 55, currently starring in BBC1's The Musketeers, and Jenna, 27, are filming the new series now.
It is thought Matt's phone call will be seen early in the run, due to be shown in the autumn.
Doctor Who's regeneration was the most-watched Christmas Day TV with 10.2 million viewers of the five-minute sequence.
