Peter Davison, who stars as Tristan in B.B.C. TV's "All Creatures Great and Small," is to be the new Doctor Who when Tom Baker leaves the programme in March next year. Peter, who is 29, will be the fifth and youngest doctor since the programme began in 1963.
Producer John Nathan Turner said last night, "Peter is an ideal actor for the role.
"He has the right combination of light humour, drama and realism, is very popular with children and has a large following with feminine viewers."
Peter is pictured, left, while the four previous Doctor Who actors are shown on right. William Hartnell (the first) and Patrick Troughton (second) are seen, top, with below, Jon Pertwee (third) and Tom Baker (fourth).
