MAD ABOUT TELLY

Timelord tag-team is too tough

ITV BOSSES are on the ropes with their new show Celebrity Wrestling - because they think it could be exterminated by Billie Piper.

We can reveal that the celebrity grappling series will kick off on Saturday April 23 amid a massive advertising campaign. The push for viewers will feature babes such as Kate Lawler, 24, and 25-year-old Michelle Heaton getting hot and sweaty.

But the timeslot for the programme is still undecided because of the success of the BBC's new Doctor Who series featuring Christopher Eccleston, 40, as the Timelord and 22-year-old Billie as his sidekick Rose Tyler.

Celebrity Wrestling was set to start at around 7pm, taking over from Ant and Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway which ends its latest run this weekend.

Ripped

A telly source on the show claimed that some ITV chiefs want the action in the ring moved to a later time.

The insider added: "It is very difficult to pin down the time when Celebrity Wrestling will be screened.

"The date has been confirmed now but there is still a bit of last-minute indecision over the time slot.

"This has come about because of the massive success of Doctor Who, which has even been beating Ant and Dec in the ratings.

"The action in the ring is also quite feisty, so some people working on the show think it would be better later at night.

"For example, some of the girls get their tops ripped off - and you can't show that at 7pm.

"But if the two shows do go head-to-head, ITV will be desperate to grapple some of those millions of viewers from the BBC."

Success

Doctor Who continued its Saturday night success at the weekend, pulling in 8.3 million for its third episode.

ITV were expected to officially announce the start of Celebrity Wrestling later this week.
