[edit]

The British are to apologise today for the high taxes that incited the Boston Tea Party, a mere 225 years to the day after angry colonists, incensed over stiff levies on their favourite beverage, dumped boxes of English tea into Boston's harbour and helped start the American revolution.

The Brooke Bond Tea Company is sending Tom Baker, who played Dr Who in the famous time-travel television series, to Boston, where he will deliver a formal address to the city's citizens.

To show the country is truly contrite, British "ambassadors" will hand out steaming cups of tea to Bostonians, free of charge.
