Doctor Who's Representation Of Doctors "Laughable", BBC Told
A veritable deluge of complaints to the BBC have argued that the show's popular long-running sci-fi drama series, Doctor Who, does not provide an accurate representation of the lives of real doctors, DIVA understands.
The programme's title character, often referred to simply as "The Doctor', "rarely if ever" sees patients, claimed one incensed viewer. Others pointed to the Doctor's lack of medical qualification and failure to wear a white coat or scrubs as evidence that the show's creators had entirely failed to offer a faithful mirror to reality. Many viewers have called for Doctor Who actor Matt Smith to be replaced in the title role by a "real doctor':
"I'm really disappointed in the BBC' commented wild-haired British Medical Association spokesphysician Emmett "Doc" Brown as he leapt nimbly from his bespoke DeLorean. "For some reason they manage to represent wizards and monarchs faithfully in Merlin, and for many years Taggart provided us with the required authentic reflection of real police, criminals and victims of crime, but when it comes to doctors, well, let's say our members are finding this a very bitter pill to swallow::
This news caps off a bad few months for the BBC, who last year fielded complaints about the 'quality and integrity" of drama Lip Service's representation of lesbians, many of whom were played by heterosexual actors.
