There are so many reasons to love the annual Christmas episode of Doctor Who.
Traditionally, it is a time for celebrating the quirkiness and humour of the long-running British TV series and every now and again it is a time for rebirth, a sweeping away of the old to usher in the new
So when rumours circulated that Jenna Coleman's companion character Clara Oswald may in fact be leaving the series for good, there was rejoicing in small corners of the Doctor Who galaxy at the chance one of the more polarizing companions could finally vacate the TARDIS.
And there were plenty of chances to kill her off, as the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Clara teamed up with Santa Claus (Nick Frost) to save a North Pole science base from dream crabs.
But alas, it wasn't meant to be and Clara will return for another series.
And as annoying as she is, there's really no such thing as a bad Doctor Who episode.
On a positive note, it was brilliant to see Frost have the chance to appear in a Doctor Who episode.
The longtime fan's best friend, Simon Pegg, made his Doctor Who debut as a villain, The Editor, in Season 1 back when the Doctor was played by Christopher Eccleston.
Special features on the DVD include a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the episode.
