[edit]

"DR. WHO" maniacs (there is no other word) will gather this weekend in San Jose for Timecon, a rather massive convention honoring this popular BBC fantasy series seen locally on PBS Channel 54. Fifty-five sci-fi experts and authors will participate in panels; moon rocks will be displayed; someone will walk around in an "Allen" costume; and — best of all — former Who John Pertwee and "Dr. Who" producer John Nathan Turner will be on hand.

So will Jonathan Frid, who played Barnabus on the horror soap opera "Dark Shadows." "Dark Shadows" has absolutely nothing to do with "Dr. Who," but that's the way it is at these things.

The Timecon kicks off Friday morning in the San Jose Convention Center, runs through Sunday and costs $25 for all three days or $15 for a one-day ticket. If you want to know more call

Spelling correction: Barnabas
