YOU'VE got to hand it to the creators of BBC-1's Dr Who series. When it comes to imaginative writing they leave Captain Kirk, Spock and other weird friends aboard the Starship Enterprise back in Warp Factor One.
Besieged last week in a monastical palace he managed to survive the threat presented by the dreaded Brothers of Demnos and a salvo of thunderbolts, and today returns on: our screens to the 20th century where he encounters a 150,000,000 year-old hand (yes, no body, just a hand).
Unknown to the good Doctor however the semi-fossilised hand is no ordinary hand. It soon manifests strange powers and causes terror in an advanced nuclear power station where it attempts to reconstitute itself. In a bid to destroy it the Doctor and faithful companion Sarah Jane land in the lifeless planet of Kastria where a more sinister plot is afoot.
Back on Earth meanwhile Derek Hobson will in all probability be experiencing Kastria's atmosphere as he makes his usual desperate bid to inject some life into the insipid 'New Faces' on UTV at 6.15.
