[edit]

DR. WHO has had enough of threatening aliens and bug-eyed monsters.

Actor Tom Baker is to quit the role of the space and time roving doctor after three years. He said: "I've had enough. I think I've done my bit."

Baker will leave his present companions, thigh-flashing Leela, played by Louise Jameson, and robot dog K9 behind next year. He plans to concentrate on serious parts in future. The fourth Doctor Who's decision to quit has taken the B.B.C. by surprise and no successor aboard the TARDIS has been named. A B.B.C. spokesman said: "His present commitments with us take him up to the end of March.

"It's true to say contracts for the 26-week series beginning next, autumn have not been signed, but Tom's working relationship with us is very good and we fully expect him to do another series."
