CATHERINE Tate is to be Doctor Who's companion for the next 13-week run — again playing the part of the appallingly bad-tempered and loudmouthed Donna, the chavvy bride who was snatched up into the Tardis in last year's Christmas special. It looks like risky casting. Tate's talents as an actress in extended parts are modest. She's a brilliant caricaturist whose characters exist to be summed up in a single catchphrase, easily imitated as we saw in Comic Relief when our previous PM so persuasively asked Lauren back: "Am I bovvered? Does my face look bovvered?"
Now there's a thought. Cherie Blair is looking for a role. Becoming Dr Who's assistant might be just the thing at this difficult stage in her career.
