Dr Who's latest time-travelling companion beamed into London yesterday for a brief encounter with the British Press.
The intrepid TV adventurer is to lose the latest in a long line of girl assistants — and collect a 15-year-old boy instead.
Romana, played by the actress Lalla Ward, will disappear from the popular BBC series this autumn. She is to be replaced by a mischievous alien called Adric who is likely to prove more than a handful for the resourceful doctor.
Adric will be played by 18-year-old Matthew Waterhouse, of Haywards Heath, Sussex. Matthew. who finished his A-levels a year ago, is the first male assistant for the current doctor, played by Tom Baker.
His diminutive size and cheeky schoolboy appearance made him ideal for the role of Adric.
