[edit]

Hilary Minster, who has died at the age of 54, had a long career in television as an actor but is probably best known for his comic portrayal of General Erich von Klinkernoffen in the long running hit series 'Allo, 'Allo, which brought him an army of fans.

In the sixties he was a regular on Doctor Who, appearing in a number of guises, and built up something of a cult following for himself. Several Internet sites are devoted to his name. He played notable character roles in two Richard Attenborough epic films - A Bridge Too Far and Cry Freedom - and was notable also as Boris in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy with Alec Guinness.

He was in several mini-series - The Duchess of Duke Street and in 1978 A Horseman Riding By - and in Anna Karenina he played the role of Yashvin.
