I DON'T like the new DR WHO, BBC1. Not yet, anyway. When Colin Baker took over the role last night the Time Lord had undergone violent biological eruption."
He has become a nasty fellow, manic and violent, with a conceited, vacuous smile.
This ploy gives us an interval to accept that Peter Davison has vacated the role, and Baker will have a different personality. Last night he said, cheekily, "My last incarnation had a feckless charm which simply wasn't me."
Baker's first new costume is a multi-patterned masterpiece of mixed-up tailoring. I congratulate the designer on a style suiting both the doctor's current fractured psyche and his habit of hamming up his lines like school Shakespeare. Very literate the script is too: So educational for young audiences.
The new villain Mestor (Edwin Richfield) is & pet: A scaly creature with antennae, like a titanic slug. Easy to copy for your own fancy dress party.
